Privacy Policy for Kipu
Last updated: June 9, 2026
Kipu is a smart bookmark manager that helps you save, organize, search, and rediscover links and other web content. Kipu is designed to be local-first. We do not operate a user account system, advertising network, or analytics backend for the app.
Information Stored on Your Device
When you save content in Kipu, the app stores bookmark data on your device, including the URL, title, description, thumbnail URL or selected thumbnail image, source, content type, category, collections, tags, notes, favorite status, reminder date, and save date.
Kipu also stores app preferences, import/export settings, reminder state, and other local settings needed for app functionality.
If you use Secret Vault, sensitive bookmark fields such as title, URL, description, thumbnail URL, and notes are encrypted before being stored. Vault keys and security metadata are stored using the device’s secure storage/Keychain where supported.
Information Sent Outside Your Device
Kipu does not upload your bookmark library to a Kipu server.
Some features require network requests:
- Metadata and thumbnails: when you save or refresh a link, Kipu may request the original website or related metadata APIs to fetch a title, description, preview image, favicon, or thumbnail.
- In-app browser: when you open a saved link inside Kipu, the website you visit may receive standard web request information and may use its own cookies, scripts, or tracking according to that website’s privacy policy.
- Purchases: Kipu uses Apple’s App Store and RevenueCat to manage Kipu Pro purchases, subscriptions, entitlements, and purchase restoration. Purchase-related information may be processed by Apple and RevenueCat for app functionality.
- External sharing/import/export: when you export bookmarks or share data using the operating system share sheet, the destination app or service you choose may receive the exported file or shared content.
Kipu does not use this information for advertising or tracking.
Purchases
Kipu Pro purchases are handled through Apple’s in-app purchase system and RevenueCat. Kipu uses purchase status only to unlock paid features and restore purchases. Kipu does not receive or store your payment card details.
Photos, Files, and Local Media
Kipu may ask for access to files or photos only when you choose to import a file, export data, or select an image to use as a bookmark thumbnail. Selected files or images are used for the feature you requested and are stored locally on your device unless you choose to export or share them.
Face ID, Touch ID, Device Lock, and PIN
Kipu may use the device authentication system to unlock Secret Vault. Biometric information such as Face ID or Touch ID data is handled by the operating system. Kipu does not receive or store biometric data.
If you create a Vault PIN or recovery passphrase, Kipu uses it to protect or recover your local encrypted vault data. Kipu does not send the PIN or passphrase to a server.
Notifications
Kipu can schedule local reminders for saved bookmarks. Reminder notifications are created on your device. Kipu does not send reminder content to a Kipu server.
Tracking and Advertising
Kipu does not display ads and does not track you across apps or websites. Kipu does not sell your personal information.
Data Retention and Deletion
Bookmark data remains on your device until you delete it. Items moved to trash may remain locally for a limited period before permanent deletion, unless you delete them permanently sooner.
You can delete saved items, clear trash, remove reminders, delete Secret Vault data, or uninstall the app to remove local app data from your device. Exported files and content shared to other apps are controlled by you and by the destination app or service.
Purchase records may be retained by Apple and RevenueCat as needed to provide purchase history, entitlement management, fraud prevention, tax, accounting, or legal compliance.
Third-Party Services
Kipu may interact with:
- Apple App Store / StoreKit, for purchases and subscriptions.
- RevenueCat, for purchase entitlement management.
- Websites and metadata providers related to links you save or open.
- Google favicon services or original website favicon endpoints, to display source icons.
- Operating system services such as Share Sheet, local notifications, file picker, photo picker, secure storage, and device authentication.
These services process data according to their own privacy policies.
Children’s Privacy
Kipu is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if Kipu’s features or data practices change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
